Weather, people, income level of the state, cost
of living, the personality of a tourist town which
I always enjoy, busy sometimes, quiet other times,
tourists sometimes and locals next time, a
seasonal type of living. They had both water
sports and snow sports, so I expected at least two
different type of tourists and then in the less
glamorous seasons the locals. I deliberately went
there in October so I would have a sense of the
change of seasons. I could walk along the Lake
but in driving just out of town toward and into
Montana I ran into black ice and snow and sleet
warnings. There also were signs already telling
skiers how the slopes were shaping up. I would
have had my beloved winter.
Beautiful boutique style shopping catering to
tourists, good restaurants, hidden known local
eateries and grocery stores sustaining the
residents. A junior college that meant a good
cross-range of ages right in the town. Good
medical care. Really close to Spokane when I was
itchy for big city stuff (Nordstrom's kind of
things), the ability to drive across Washington
State and visit Seattle and spend night and return
if I wanted to do that (I did and did).
But most of all, just a plain darn physically
pleasing gorgeous locality with nice people
populating it.
