I'm finding out that I am made of "really strong stock" too. My daughter told me that I worked really hard. I'm not patting myself on the back, I just did it because it had to be done. Like most people do. When we built houses, I worked with John on the job until about 2 p.m., then went home, cleaned up and went to work at the phone company. That's just the way it had to be. She noticed that.
I've noticed when some of you are talking about your grandmothers, they were the age of my mother. She was born in 1891, so to me, she was always old. I never knew my grandparents, they were long gone before I was even thought about.
No, I haven't seen any ash. The wind was blowing SSW so it wasn't coming back our way. There wasn't a lot of ash anyhow, it was mostly steam that blew. They said the mountain just gave a "burp".

Emma, don't beat your self up thinking you should have done better in your
life. We can all do that and imagine there were things your mama wished she
had done different. In those days they were made of really strong stock and
did with what they had, took care of family the hard way.
Hope your not getting any ash blowing back in. We have allot of smoke in the
valley today, burning fields south of us. Ick. Maybe it is your ash.
You take care Emma, enjoy your new apartment.
Louise in Ca.
