Living in a small town in the middle of Texas we don't have shoe stores like
before.
Matter of fact in the surrounding 50 miles I can't think of a "real shoe
store". I am not including Payless as a shoe store because it is not a shoe
store but a shoe warehouse.
I can not remember the last time I picked out a pair of shoes, sat in a
chair, put my foot on the slooping part of the stool so the man could
measure my foot, retreive the correct size, slip it on my foot and then ask
how that feels. Those days made you feel special and the anticipation of
seeing if they had it in your size.

Now you run into Payless, Wal Mart etc and grab a pair off rack...yeah it
is nice to do that but it is so nice to be pampered too.

As a child I can remember the xray machine so we could see if the shoe
really did fit our foot correctly.

As Archie and Edith Bunker sang..."Those were the days...."
