Hi Charley,
This was the Clement Mattingly I wrote about this morning (married Priscilla
Goldsmith). He's not the Clement Mattingly (b. 1808) who married Elizabeth
M. Wheeler that John asked about.
In response to the data you got from Hope Grace and Lenora, I don't agree.
Clement's father was Zachariah (don't know his mother at his point)was not
the son of Zachariah Mattingly who m. Ann Panny Spalding. That Zachariah
Mattingly died in Washington, D.C. in 1823 and devised all of his estate to
Ann Panny. The second wife of Zachariah Mattingly (d. 1826) was Ann Frances
Millard, whom he married 1/20/1798.
Zachariah Mattingly, father of Clement Mattingly who married Priscilla
Goldsmith, died in 1826 without a will, but there were documents:
8/1826: At the request of Thomas Mattingly, adm. of Zachariah Mattingly of
Luke it was ordered by the court that Richard H. Miles, adm. of Clement
Mattingly keep in his hands all of the money arising from the sale of
negroes conveyed by Zachariah Mattingly of Luke to his son Clement Mattingly
for certain purposes and that he pay to the Exec. of Zachariah Mattingly of
Luke 1/2 of the debts due from the deceased and that Thomas Mattingly
proceed to recover of Henry Miles 1/3 part of all the debts due from the
said Zachariah Mattingly of Luke dec'd agreeable to a contract entered into
by his children, viz: Clement Mattingly, Thomas Mattingly, and Henry Miles
in right of his wife an in conformity with the will of the deceased.
(Orphan Ct. Rec., Fenwick).
This is the Zachariah Mattingly who was the son of Luke Mattingly and his
second wife, Priscilla Ford, who had married first, George Knott.

Linda, John
According to Hope Grace and Lenora's Notebook, Clement was the son of
Zachariah and Ann 'Fanny' [Spalding] Mattingly, with Zachariah the son of
Luke and Priscilla [Knott] Mattingly; with Luke the son of Thomas II, the
son
of Thomas I.
