In cleaning out the basement, I came across a small (about 2" x 2 1/2") leather photo case, which holds the tintype of a young man in formal dress (I'd say about 1860 or so, from his clothing). The tintype itself isn't identified, but the space behind it in the case contains locks of hair (two, probably from different people), as well as a piece of jewelry made from hair woven onto a wire frame. There's also a piece of paper, with the name John James McCracken, the phrase 8/10 Photo, and a letter J written on it in pencil. This isn't a member of my family, or (as far as I know) my wife's. I'd like to see it passed along to someone to whom it's significant; obviously, I won't give it away until I'm convinced that the person inquiring about it is a family member. I don't know how to establish that, but maybe something will come forth. For background, much of my wife's family came from Pennsylvania, but I don't know of any McCrackens.
