Hi,
I'm doing some McCracken related research in Nodaway Co. MO which borders
Taylor Co. IA.
One of the people I'm researching was living in Nodaway Co. MO in 1856 and
said that his early neighbors were the "McCrackens".
Someone just gave me a list of the early McCracken land owners up there so
now I have some first names..........Daniel and James V. McCracken.
Based on a few other bits of info, I'm pretty sure that the James McCracken
listed on the 1870 census in Bedford, Taylor Co. IA is the James V.
McCracken who owned land in Nodaway in 1856.
Here is the land info from that index in case anyone else is in need of it:
Daniel Book 4 page 401
587
7 465
8 373
34 600
Isaac 20 157
James H 48 294
James H & Annie 51 341
James V 4 587
William 21 105
You'll notice that Daniel and James V. McCracken have land records on the
same page(587), leading me to think they are likely related. Book 4 is one
of the earlier land books up in Nodaway which suggests to me these are the
McCracken neighbors spoken of.
Other info from Andreas History of Iowa, found online indicates the James
McCracken in Bedford, Taylor County was from Hendricks IA. I don't know
where Daniel went.
I would like to correspond with anyone researching Daniel and James V.
McCracken if possible. Glad to share info.
Thanks!
Karren A.
