I have done some research on the McCRACKENS of Taylor County,Iowa. There were 2 brothers McCRACKEN,ABRAHAM and JAMES who were sons of ISAAC and SUSANNA HAMILTON McCRACKEN who lived in Davis County,Iowa. They were born in Hendricks County,Indiana. ISAAC and SUSANNA HAMILTON were both born in Fleming County,Ky. I do not think the THOMAS who was born in North Carolina was a relative. I may have some info on the children of ABRAHAM and JAMES. Can you give me any more info on the ones in Nodaway County,Mo.? Such as ages?
Thanks,Clyde

Karren,
I'd love to help. But I have not gotten to that point of tracking the
McCrackens that ended up in Iowa.

1850 - 1878

Hi,

I could sure use some McCracken help.

I came across some McCrackens listed in a Newspaper Abstracts Index for
Nodaway County Missouri.

I'm researching people in Nodaway which borders Taylor County IA.

A newspaper interview in a book on Nodaway County was given by a man I'm
researching. His name was John Ham and he was an early settler in
Independence Twp in Nodaway. That township borders Taylor County IA. He
says in the interview that when he came to the township his neighbors were
the McCrackens and Packards. No first names given.

He also says that he had come from Iowa and so had his neighbors. Then he
says that a lot of the settlers from Iowa returned to Iowa at the beginning
of the Civil war.

The 1860 census shows a Thomas McCracken, 28yr, born NC, and his family
living in Taylor County Iowa.

The newspaper abstracts (Pat O'Dell's book) lists the following McCrackens:

Ann McCracken
Charles McCracken
J. D. McCracken
James McCracken
Wes McCracken

I'm not a McCracken descendent but would be glad to share the info I have.

I'm researching the John Ham mentioned above and some other settlers located
at Graham in Nodaway County.

I would very much like to correspond with anyone researching these McCracken
people. I have other McCrackens in my research and I need to figure out if
they are related to these McCrakens in Nodaway. I'm researching an orphan
(not related to the McCrackens) and knowing which people in my research knew
each other is important to figuring out how she came to be in Nodaway
County.

I don't expect any McCrackens to know about my orphan. If someone can just
help me sort out the McCrakens I've come across, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks so much!

Karren A.
