Licking, Missouri...I'll bet you thought no one on the Mayfield list would
know where your tiny town is!
We lived there when I was in fourth and fifth grades....moons ago (graduated
in 1970). My Dad ran heavy equipment for the company that built your "new
highway".
After moving from there, we returned every four of July to camp at Boiling
Springs with our extended family all meeting us there. Have great memories
of frozen toes and ice cold watermelon in the cold springs. As we hits our
late teens a parents stopped camping and started taking "real" vacations, we
stopped returning to the area. (32 years ago)
About 10 years ago, I talked my immediate family into planning a week stay at
Montauck. It became a yearly trip, one we look forward to and it has grown
to include friends 7 to 10 days, no phones....no stress.
Cabin with hot shower and A.C. and 12 hours of trout fishing ... who could
ask for more? Now my daughter has great memories of Licking, camping and a
true love for trout fishing! She's 19 ... but hubby and I will continue the
tradition of trecking to Licking once a year.
