I have returned from a recent research trip to Dorchester and Caroline Counties. An unexpected find was a Family Bible dated 1872 belonging to my GG GF Benjamin Jones who married Laura Calaway/Calloway. It passed on the possession of 'Addie' Jones until such time as it necessitated being placed in the possession of her sister Alice Jones Hackett. Upon Alice's death it passed and remains in the possession of her granddaughter Jeannette Wheatley who gratiously allowed me unlimited access to it and photocopies of the pages. Here is some of the information that i have copies of. Due to the different handwritings, i will endeavor to transcribe them as they were entered and spelled in the Family Bible. Page entitled : Marriages Benjamin Jones and Leary I. C. Calaway joined the hand of marag April..26..1866 Benjamin Jones and Mary Ann Colbern jind the hand of marage January..19.1882 *There are no other marriages listed on this page. These are the only entries. Page entitled: Births Benjamin Jones was bornd in the year of our lord April..12..1840 Lary Icenas Calaway was borned in the year of our lord Septem..1..1850 Sarah Jane Jones the dahter of Benjamin and Lary I.C. Jones was borned October..30..1867 Isah Jones the son of Benjamin and Lary I.C. Jones was borned febuary..14.1869 Tomis Jeferson Jones the son of Benjamin and Lary I.C. Jones was bornd July..31..1872 Martha Jones the dautr of Benjamin and Lary I.C. Jones was borned March 24..1875 Benjamin Edgr Jones the sun of Benjamin and Lary I. C. Jones was borned January..26..1878 Rebeca Jones the dautr of Benjamin and Lary I. C. Jones was borned Septenber..14..1880 **Need a notation here that all the previous entries were in the same handwriting. The handwriting changes here for these next entries.** Addie Jones the dautr of Benja Jones Mary A Jones was - was borned at febuary..9..1883 (It should be noted that Addie's name was Nancy Adeline Jones but she refused to be acknowledged by anything other than Addie.) Orsa Wilmer Jones. the son of Benjamin and Mary A Jones was borned January..15..1885 (*Note his name was Arcy Wilmer Jones) Alice Levenie Jones was borened April..26.. Alvin Harel Jones was borned July..22..19_0 *These entries are supposedly by Addie Jones which would account for the inconsistencies. These entries are also not on an established page that was published and attached to the original Bible but added as a 'page look alike'. Page entitled : Deaths Rebecca Jones died September..19..1880 Leandh I. C. Jones died November..5..1880 Benjamin Jones died March 13=1904 aged 63years=11days Mary An Jones died July 23..1931 Addie Jones died August 5, 1967 at 11 o'clock Alvin Harold Jones died May 17,1968 At about 1:30 A.M. This next information is written on paper that looks even older than the paper of the 1872 Family Bible. It looks to have been torn from another bound book and inserted in this Bible. The dates predate the printing of this book. These listings are from New Jersey . I will transcribe here as written in the Bible. These first two appear to be my ggg gp's. Benjamin Jones was born March 29 = 1801 Martha Jones was born March 14 --1804 Children of Benjamin and Martha Jones William E Jones was born December 10 = 1826 Jehu Jones was born Febrary 10 = 1828 Hannah Ann Jones was born October 4 = 1829 Sarah W Jones was born June 21 = 1831 Isaiah Jones was born Febuary 10 = 1833 John Jones was born Septenber 21 1834 Edward C Jones was born August 11 - 1836 David W Jones was born June 1 = 1838 Benjamin Jones was born April 12 = 1840 Martha Anna Jones was born March 1 1842 Rebecca Jane Jones was born November 1 = 1844 John Jones died drowned August 1840 *There is a straight unbroken line next and then these entries. I do not know what the connection to Jones is exactly but it appears that some at least, may be siblings of my ggg gm Martha (Walker?) who married Benjamin Jones Hannah Walker was born Jannary 2 1800 Rebecca Walker was born Febuary 1802 Martha Walker was born March 14 1804 William Walker was born July 4 = 1806 Rachel Walker was born September 10 = 1808 John W Eveans was born December 20 1850 Samuel H Jones was born March 23_1851 Filena LeLutvar - was born December 18 = 1858 If anyone knows or connects with any of these Jones ancestor's please contact me. I descend from Benjamin Jones born April 12, 1840 through son Thomas Jefferson Jones. Both Benjamin Jones and David W Jones born June 1, 1838 move to Dorcester County MD, somewhere around the period of the Civil War era or post era and marry sisters (Laura/Lary and Emily V. Calaway).
