Very timely post <g> . . . I was thinking I needed to post another message about CemTrek2001, and (to use a baseball
metaphor - *Go Tigers*), Donna has just pitched me a nice fastball, up about waist-high, out over the plate. :D

She swings . . . .
================================
What is CemTrek? For the uninitiated, it should be explained that CemTrek is really 3 events in one:

1) Since 1997, a group of LDRooters and friends have gathered in early August down on the Lower Eastern Shore of
Maryland (Wicomico/Somerset/Worcester) to visit graveyards and other sites of historical/genealogical significance.
We've recorded the dates from lots and lots of gravestones, and this data is placed on the appropriate MDGenWeb county
sites for everyone to enjoy. Our merry band of fearless explorers makes quite a sight, caravan-ing and careening down
the back roads of the shore, screeching to a halt next to a corn field with a tuft of vegetation in the middle or a
stand of trees with a possible glimpse of stone or a church graveyard. We emerge at the end of the day tired, hot,
usually scratched up, and VICTORIOUS, with lined sheets of paper filled with data (hopefully).

By that time, we are more than ready to retreat to our lodging to de-dust, de-chigger, and de-bramble. When we've
freshened up, it is on to the *real* highlight of the day . . . <g>

2) Dinner at the Red Roost. This is an honest-to-goodness rehabbed chicken coop WAAAAY back in the woods in what used
to be Clara, Maryland, and is now a bit northwest of Whitehaven (always was, but you know what I mean). Oh, but what
great food - an Eastern Shore feast fit for hungry CemTrekkers. We gather here, replenish body and soul, and exchange
the genealogical equivalent of fishin' stories. It is usually dark by the time we leave here, fat and happy, and as
there are no street lights back in Muddy Hole, it makes for rather interesting driving. A word to the wise . . . do NOT
watch either a) "Children of the Corn" or b) "The Blair Witch Project" within approximately 4 weeks of attending.

The next morning, the last component of the CemTrek takes place . . .

3) The Lower DelMarVa Roots Nabb Research Center Gathering is where we get a chance to get together for a nice, full day
of research and cameraderie at the best place on the planet for DelMarVa research. If you've never been there, you are
in for a treat. We usually have quite a nice-sized group that meets to spend the day at the Nabb Center, and it is fun
to finally get to meet people you've corresponded with or have seen posting on the LDRoots list, and to get together
again with old friends.

This year will mark the *5th* annual CemTrek. Can you believe that, CemTrek veterans? The dates I'm planning on this
year are Sunday, August 5th for the CemTrek and Red Roost Feast, and Monday, August 6th for the LDRoots Nabb Center
Gathering.

Sound like fun? It is an informal group, and an informal gathering, so there is no cost (beyond your own personal
expenses for food, lodging and etc., and the daily admission fee - I think $6 - for the Nabb Center), and no formal
registration. I do like to know in advance who to expect (so we don't leave anyone behind at the meeting point when we
roar off in a cloud of dust toward the cemeteries) <gggg>, so if you would like to attend any or all of the events, just
drop me a note and indicate which of the 3 you will be coming to (CemTrek, Red Roost, Nabb Center). Also, if you know
of any out-of-the-way kinds of cemeteries or family graveyards (our favorite kind), please let me know that, too, and
we'll put in on the itinerary.
=====================================

Already, it looks like we'll have a nice-sized group for all 3 events. If anyone would like to join us for any (or
all) of the events, just let me know. As the time gets closer, we'll settle on a meeting place for the CemTrek portion.

:)
