Frank,

Have you tried tying in your Sussex Co., DE BETTS families with the
Kent Co., DE BETTS families? John BETTS (d. 1697) of Kent Co.
seems to have had some presence in Sussex Co. He is mentioned
in Sussex Co. court records in 1680 and is included as an heir
in the 1683 Sussex Co. will of Cornelius Verhoofe. Perhaps your
late 1700s BETTS families are descended from him. There are quite
a few BETTS listed in the Calendar of Kent Co., DE Probate Records
(de Valinger). There are also a few pages dedicated to the BETTS
in F. Edward Wright's recently published Colonial Families of
Delaware (vol. 1). There might be something helpful there for
you.
