My mother's family name is McKnight. My GGGGgrandfather on that side was
George McKnight born 1738 in Somerset Co. MD. He later moved to Rowan Co. NC
and was married to Catherine Lee. The McKnight family in Somerset Co. was
married to Wallaces. My line as I believe it came down was this:
John McKnight married to Elizabeth Wallace
John McKnight born 1660 married Jane Alexander
John McKnight born 1687 married Dorothy Wallace
John McKnight born 1715
George McKnight born 1738
I came to this idea through a process of elimination. My line has been
traced back to George. The 1759 tax list in Rowan Co.NC listed two McKnights
John and George. John McKnight born 1660 was the only boy in that family. He
had three sons. The other two lines don't match up. I think John McKnight
1715 was the only McKnight who could have been the father of George. I would
like to know more of the Wallaces in this line. In particular I would like to
know if their are others on the Wallace list who share this line back there.
Almost everything I have seen on the list is from more recent times or other
lines altogether.
