In a message dated 98-06-18 03:52:49 EDT, you write:
<< What relation, if any, is there to the New Castle Prison, or otherwise
called Simsbury Mine to the town of New Castle?
Was it a real or fictitious place (I read about it in a short story
entitled "Escape from the Mine, by Walter D. Edmonds ) in the Northeast.
Who did the Prison intern, and why?
What is the history of New Castle.
Any connection to the town in England?

Hi, I was born and raised in New Castle, DE. I am not aware of any
"Prison" being in New Castle. New Castle is an old Historical town, having
alot to do with Wm. Penn. It does in fact have something to do with England.
Supposedly the Queen of England gave or sold the property from New Castle to
somewhere in New Jersey, to Wm. Penn. Gee, you think you know it all until
someone askes, then you find out you really don't know as much as you think
you know about the town you grew up in. I believe the only "Prison" to be on
Pea Patch Island (Fort Delaware). That is a little island not far off from
Old New Castle, they have boats that run out there taking people to the
island. That's about all I can tell you off the top of my head, I can surely
get the facts with no problem if you are really interested. Let me know.
Thanks for making me realize how little I really know about my hometown. Now
that I'm old enough to appreciate it, maybe I oughta look into the history of
it anyway ! New Castle is a little town with alot of history.
