Hi, everyone!
I haven't taken much part in recent discussions since I've been
racing to finish a PR transcription for Somerset & Dorset FHS and an 1851
Census transcription for Gloucester FHS, besides the look-ups, which I really
enjoy.

Here's another gem for the collection:-

I did explain, politely, what a look-up involves, and also that
without an idea of the geographical area it was pretty impossible! To
be fair, this one didn't come through look-up but from my homepage
(address below). My son, who does the technical bits for me, says I
must put a short description of the contents with each book title,
which seems to me a good idea, and perhaps one which would help
people to know if a look-up offered was potentially useful to them or
not. Lots of people write asking what are Protestation Returns, for
instance.

I do agree that it's sometimes frustrating, but the buzz from having
someone write to say you've supplied a missing piece of jigsaw is
worth any hassle. Also as an ex-teacher, my colleagues and I are
probably responsible in part for people not reading things properly,
though we did try - "Read the question and only answer what it
asks" - do you remember? One of these days I must write to some of
you for look-ups myself... when I have time.....

Wendy

(please send personal e-mail to rather than
... thanks)
