There were places to gamble right here in New Orleans. The Beverly was on
Jefferson Highway at Labarre Road. Owned by the mafia, it offered a night
club, a high class restaurant and gambling. There was no keno at the
Beverly. The Southport was on River Road at Protection Levee, right near
the Jefferson Parish line. My father tells me that the catering at the
Southport was done by Mrs. Ledner (doberge cake fame).

The Beverly opened up again ??? I can't recall the date...but it has been
within my adult lifetime...as a dinner theater...but, don't ask me why, I
think the Beverly Dinner Theater was located where the Southport had been.
