Subject: [KISSINGCOUSINS-L] Heriditary Diseases Compounded by Cousin Marriages
Date: Fri, 04 Feb 2000 09:20:48 -0800

I have to go to the 1700's to find my 1st cousin marriages
GRAHAM-GRAHAM. Uncles became father-in laws and often brothers married
their sister-in-laws. Unfortunately our medical history is not that
straight. I can only trace it to about 1870-1880. Yet through family
photos I see characteristics of my husbands inherited syndrome,-
Marfans. It is heriditary and children have a 50-50 shot of either
developing it or not having it. The National Marfans Society and
Stanford both have excellent web sites. Lung Diseases, Dental Problems,
Overly tall for the Time Frame, "Bone Disease/Arthritis " Heart
Attack/Ascending Aortic Dissections,Chronic Headaches,Tooth Infections
all of these simple diagnosis' could be indicators of such Familial
Inheritance. Today Marfans patients endure many surgeries and lifestyle
restrictions due to their inherited disorders. But in yester year the
incidence of early death was not uncommon and was considered normal.
The value of medical research through genealogy is important and
enriches our lives. If there are any questions I'd be glad to answer
them.<>
