Hi List,
First to introduce myself..
I have just subscribed to the IOW list but have been involved with
genealogy for nearly 40 years and member of various mailing lists for
other counties. I have traced most of my lines back to the earliest
parish registers but am gradually revisiting the lines and adding in
families and descendants of siblings just to keep my interest going!
Like many others, I am descended from the GROVES of the IOW. My great
great grandfather John Groves was born in Thorley in 1830, the son of
James and Lucy (Breaker) GROVES. He left the Island and ended up as a
police constable in Southampton.
In trying to sort out all the information I have on the GROVES,
(particularly but not not restricted to Freshwater), I appear to be
missing the baptism of Robert GROVES who married Mary ROLPH in 1763.
Does anyone have him in their tree who could help me with this?
Kind regards
Sandra
