Hi,

Has anyone subscribing to this list any ancestors with the surname GAPES in their trees.
My wife's grandfather George William GAPES, born 1899 possibly in Ireland, is proving to be very elusive. He does not appear in the Registry of Births, Marriages and Deaths for 1899 or on the 1901 UK census - this is possibly due to the fact that his father Charles John GAPES (b.Landport Hampshire 1871) was in the Royal Navy perhaps stationed in Ireland with his wife Laura May (ATTRILL) (b.Hampshire 1873) at the time of the birth.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a brick wall I would love to topple.
