Some thoughts on your Donoghues:
The IoWFHS Searchable births database has the following entry for 1865:
DONOHUE, Don, Patrick 1865 HARDELL Newport N22/P73
Possibly this (Don) could be a transcription error, maybe worth checking -
the reference can be used to obtain certificate from Newport.
I assume you have also found the family in 1881 at Violet, High Street, St
Helens:
Patrick Donaghue Head M 54 Broker Lab (Farm) Cork Co, Ireland
Elizabeth Donaghue Wife M 54 Stretton on Dunsmore
Albert J Donaghue Son 10 Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight (Carisbrooke parish
would include Hunnyhill)
Caroline Mary can also be found in 1881 (aged 13 born Kent) a visitor at the
home of James & Fanny Jacobs in Brading
I would suggest that in 1865-1871 timeframe Patrick was most likely a Prison
Guard at Parkhurst Convict Prison, or in the Army.
There is a Daniel P Donoghue who married Emma Bennett at All Saints, Ryde in
1886, which could tie in with the 1865 birth (21 years old). Maybe the "L S"
initials are a red herring and really its Daniel Patrick Donoghue?
The 1901 census index shows a Daniel Donoghue aged 36, born Newport, Isle of
Wight in Derby "Soldier Sergeant Instructor Infantry"; Frederick 7
(Colchester), Eileen 4 (Ireland), Albert 2 (Derby) & Caroline 2 (Derby) are
at same address so are probably sons and daughters, however the wife appears
to be Kathleen 35 (Ireland) so maybe Emma died between 1886 and 1901 - this
is only from the index not the census page itself.
I have no direct interest in the family by the way, just idly browsing. Hope
this helps.
