Dear IOW Listers,
Another batch of certificates, and another few questions.
I have found a Sea View in Havant, but the one on the certificate
I have for marriage (at the Parish Church in St Helens) of Frank James
GREENHAM and Ellen TAYLOR in 1863 has Frank's address as Sea View. Is this
another small farm like Dottens/Dollens? Or a hamlet? Frank was a Mariner,
and his father Cornelius was also a Mariner. Can't find Cornelius in 1881,
so I imagine he had died by then. Anyone linked to the GREENHAMs? Frank and
Ellen were in Park Road, Northwood in 1881 with 7 children.
Also, the witnesses to the wedding of Julia Ann TAYLOR (Ellen's
sister) in 1858 to George CHIVERTON (son of James, Labourer) in Freshwater,
were Charles and Caroline REASON. This is a new name for us - does anyone
know anything about them? Julia's older sister was Caroline - born abt
1835, daughter of Charles Henry TAYLOR and Charlotte (DOWNER) - I've looked
at the IOW BDM and haven't found a marriage for Caroline by 1858, but they
could have married elsewhere, or it's a red herring! Julia and George lived
at Norton.
Final query - Caroline CHIVERTON - (her sister Mary Ann married
Frank Charles TAYLOR - brother to Julia and Ellen) married Henry MANSFIELD
in 1879 in the Wesleyan Chapel in Freshwater. He was a Gunner in the Royal
Artillery, living at the time of marriage at what looks like
Cliff 2nd Fort, Freshwater. Is this where he'd have been based?
Too many showers for gardening - hope the weekend is better for
everyone else. Flaming June??
