Subject: Lookup request - James THOMAS, coastguard, 1841
Date: Mon, 24 May 2004 14:46:56 +0100 (BST)

Hello everyone,

I wonder if anybody with access to the 1841 census for the IOW could look up
James and Sarah THOMAS for me? They were last heard of in Atherfield/St
Lawrence in 1834, with (at least) daughters Henrietta (b1832) and Isabella
Jesse (b1834).

James was described as 'Chief boatman Preventive Station Atherfield' on
Henrietta's birth in 1832, and 'Coast Guards Man, of St Lawrence' on Isabella's
birth in 1834. As far as I know, James and Sarah were in Swansea until at least
1822 (judging by the births of their older children), but I have no idea (and
would love to know) whether they were still on the IOW in 1841.

There is another, younger James THOMAS, who is not (as far as I know) any
relation, who was also a coastguard - he was married to Faith and based at
Freshwater/Niton. My James THOMAS, though, is proving trickier to find, so any
help would be *very* gratefully received!

Thank you in advance,
Kirsty
