I have just had another look at Robert COOPER, and here is what I come up with:
Robert COOPER m. at Newchurch in 1745 to Mary Ann TUCKER (she was buried 21
Oct 1759 at Binstead). They had the following children:-
- William, bap: 11 Sep 1748 Newchurch
- Robert, bap: 28 Feb 1851 Binstead
The only baptism for a possible Robert I can find is on 15 Mar 1718 at
Thorley, son of John
- Mary, bap: 28 Feb 1753 Binstead
- Un-named child, bap: 28 Feb 1755 Binstead
Then Robert, a widower of Binstead m. 15 Jul 1761 at Arreton to Martha GAWN
There is also:-
- Robert buried at Binstead on 30 Aug 1767
- Mary, wife of Robert, buried Binstead, 7 Jun 1764!!!!!!
- Jane, daughter of Robert, buried Binstead 24 Sep 1765
- Robert, buried Binstead 16 Mar 1775.
I reckon there could easily be 2 generations here of Roberts, both married
to Mary.
There are no children recorded to Robert COOPER and Martha GAWN
- Martha COOPER m. 28 Dec 1776 at Arreton to Charles OSBORN

> ROBERT COOPER , born about 1797 was, in 1851 a grocer, baker

This Robert seems to be the son of George COOPER and Lydia, who was
baptised at Binstead on 19 Jun 1796. I have 4 children for them but no
marriage. The eldest was born in 1792.

>His wife was ELIZA born about 1808 at Northwood and their
>children were:

She was Eliza MITCHELL, m. 8 Jul 1834 at Northwood He was from Arreton.
Children:-
- Robert, bap: 6 Sep 1835 Wootton [m. 28 Jun 1860 at Arreton to Jane Hobbs
CHEEK]
- Edward, bap: 13 May 1838 Wootton
- Mary Mitchell, bap: 6 Feb 1842 Wootton (where Robert is listed as a
Grocer and sometimes Carpenter)
- Edward Mitchell, bap: 4 Aug 1844 Wootton (Grocer of Wootton)

>ROBERT born about 1836 in Arreton who worked as a "grocer's
>son", and Edward born about 1845 in Arreton. Could the testator, WILLIAM
>COOPER have been the brother in law of MARTHA?

Alas, I can't find any suitable William. George and Lydia did not have a
son by that name.
