Hello everyone,

I have just recieved a death certificate for my G grandmother, Jane Elizabeth Ada THOMAS nee FRENCH.

This has enabled me to identify her on the 1881 census. Living in Cowes, she was the daughter of Elizabeth FRENCH and probably Daniel FRENCH, mariner on board the vessel 'Fair Geraldine'. I have found a marriage for Daniel FRENCH to Elizabeth Ann CHESSEL, March 1875. Daniel's birthplace is given as Selsey, Sussex.

Also living in Brunswick Road,is a Thomas A FRENCH also a mariner born in Chichester, Sussex. He is also listed aboard the vessel 'Pandora'.

I think it is highly likely these two men are brothers.

On the 1881 census, living with Thomas FRENCH and his family, is his mother Jane whose birthplace is given as West Cowes c 1810.
I think Thomas may have married Sarah BUDDEN at Lymington in 1869.

Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated as would contact with anyone connected to them.
