Hello
I can't resist commenting on this late registration fee of 7/6d
after 42 days. This just may help someone who was as
puzzled as my family.
My Mom was born in Bristol in 1905 and came to Canada in
1907. Her birthday was always celebrated on July 20th.
She never seemed to need a birth certificate but in later years,
when she applied for her Old Age Security she had to send
to England for the cert. It arrived back stating her birthday
was August 30th and she was registered October 6th, 1905.
I am now quite sure my grandmother never had the 7/6d so
she just pushed her birthdate ahead to within the limits.
Sure wish I had known about this when my Mom was still alive
as it was always a family mystery. Thanks
Lorraine Ottawa, Canada

Although certainly born in London, but where? May have been in a horse drawn
ambulance.. her brith place was officially stated as the family home. St.
Paul"s Walden Bury, in Hertfordshire. Elizabeth's father registered the
birth at Hitchin when she was seven weeks old, and was duly fined 7/6d for
failing to report the birth within the legal requirement of 42 days..
