Georgia,
My name is Lori Gargus and I had saved
your posting to the Iowa list about the
look-ups in your book about a German Lutheran
church north of Clarksville, Iowa. Could I
ask you to look up a name for me? Actually a
couple of names. I'm looking for any
Schmidtke's or Kumm's. My Great grandmother
was Augusta Kumm married to Herman
Schmidtke. She came to America in 1881 from
Germany and married Herman in 1882. He came
to America about the same time from Germany
also. There are many Schmitkes in and around
Floyd county. I just found out yesterday
that Augusta was Lutheran and her children
and grandchildren were baptized as Lutheran.
I don't know where they were attending, but
since Clarksville isn't far from where they
lived at one point, I thought I'd give it a
shot to ask you about a look-up. Also, I'm
not positive about Augusta's parents. Right
now it looks like they were Ferdinand and
Wilhelmina Kumm.
If you would be so kind as to check your
book for these people or any Schmidtke's or
Kumm's, I would greatly appreciate it. I had
kind of hit a wall and was getting very
discouraged until yesterday when my mom got
home from Florida and showed me some things I
didn't even know she had(such as baptism
certificates andthings like that). She
verified the Lutheran heritage(is that the
right word?).
Anyway, I won't keep you any longer. If
you don't mind doing the look-up, thank you
ahead of time. If you don't have time, then
thank you anyway for reading this.
