BEDFORD SUICIDE
Citizens of Bedford were shocked Sunday morning to learn that Mrs. Ambrose
Bowden had committed suicide during the night. Domestic troubles seem to
have been the cause. With her husband, she left Bedford Saturday for
Orleans, but only went as far as Mitchell, returning to Bedford at midnight
and going directly to their home. At 2 o'clock Sunday morning Mr. Bowden
found his wife had locked herself in the kitchen. Looking over the transom,
he discovered her in the act of taking a mixture of carbolic acid and
laudanum. Neighbors and a doctor were summoned, but she died within half an
hour. Before dying, Mrs. Bowden selected the robes in which she wished to
be buried.
