FORTY YEARS IN BUSINESS HERE
Record of James Karsell and Walter Collins
Tomorrow, March 14th, James Karsell and Walter Collins will have been in
business in Bloomington for 40 consecutive years. Aside from them, no man
is in business here today who was then the owner of a store. W. W. Wicks
was an assistant for C. P. Tuley, and several years later opened business
himself. For years, the firm of Collins & Karsell ran a bakery and lunch
room where the George Benckart Store now stands, and later bought a grocery
on the site of the Graham Store, then they moved to the present location of
the Collins-Seidle room. Several years ago Mr. Karsell traded his grocery
interest to Mr. Collins for his partnership in the Bloomington Flouring
Mill, but in the two score years since the two landed in Bloomington, then a
town of 2,500 people, neither of them have been out of business for an hour.
