MR. KETCHAM IS DEAD
Ending of a Life of Usefulness and Honor

George Pearcy Ketcham died at six o'clock last evening at his home six miles
southeast of the city after a prolonged illness of dropsy. Mr. Ketcham was
taken ill with the disease last fall, and his condition never improved, and
death came as a welcome relief to suffering.

Mr. Ketcham was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ketcham and was born near the
present homestead, October 13, 1822. He lived with his parents for a number
of years and became interested in the Ketcham flour mill. He has given his
personal attention to the conducting of the business of the mill for a number
of years, and his great enthusiasm for the work was only checked by illness.

For many years the old settlers of the county have met in the beautiful
Ketcham grove and talked over old times together. Mr. Ketcham was one of the
central figures, and now the meetings will be disbanded.

He was married to Mary E. Dye of Bedford, November 1, 1848. To this union the
following children were born: James, Luther, Daniel, Walter, Elizabeth,
Merrill, Mary, Emma, George who died in infancy, and Dr. John B. Ketcham.
Mrs. Ketcham has been dead for four years.

Mr. Ketcham was a faithful member of the College Avenue M. E. Church.

The funeral will occur this afternoon, probably at 2:30 O'Clock and from the
late residence. The services will be in charge of Dr.J. H. Doddridge, and the
remains will be buried in the family lot near the old homestead.
