TO DEVELOP OUR CITY
Mr. Clair of Illinois Central Talks of Bloomington
For the past two days the industrial commissioner of the Illinois Central railroad, in the person of John C. Clair, has been here in conference with citizens. His duties are to develop towns and establish enterprises on the lines of the railroad he represents.
Mr. Clair talked freely to the Telephone last night: "Now that the Illinois Central is owner of the Indianapolis Southern we are just as much interested in Bloomington as any of its people. To develop a community means more freight and passenger traffic, and that is what the road is being built for. The Illinois Central makes an effort to locate factories and mills on its line, and we especially are interested in Bloomington because it is about midway on the proposed new road. Construction is to be pushed rapidly, and we want to produce something. I am much pleased with Bloomington. It is an ideal place for a large cement plant and for factories because of nearby coal. You will see me again, and if your citizens will take an interest and assist in furnishing the money, we of the Illinois Central will furnish the shipping facilities."
