Obituary

James M. Deckard was born in Clear Creek township, Monroe county, on March 29, 1861, and died March 26, 1930, age 68 years, 11 months and 26 days.

He was married to Clara A. Harrell November 22, 1881. To this union was born six children Mrs. J.L. Warring, Mrs. Marshall Wisley, Mrs. Ancil Mitchell and Fred, Robert and Clifford Deckard, all of whom are living. His companion departed this life February 21, 1925. He leaves 13 grandchildren and one deceased, Gleeda, daughter of Robert and Oda Deckard. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. George Gaithers and Mrs. G.W. Oldham; and six brothers, Edward, William, Thomas, Andrew, Charley, and Frank. Two brothers George and Lewis preceeded him to the great beyond.

He became a member of Smithville Christian church in 1879, but for several years has attended church and Sunday school at Mt. Ebal, that being near his home.

His years were of sunshine and shadows, toil and suffering, but in all the trials of life he never lost sight of the cross and he had an abiding faith in Jesus. His virtues and his kind and loving deeds that his heart moved him to do will live in the memory of his kindred and friends. He was a member of the Masonic lodge of Harrodsburg and K. of P. of Smithville.
