Bloomington, Ind., May 13. D. L. Demaree, who was fatally injured by an
electric car in Indianapolis Saturday evening, is a well known resident
of this city. Twelve years ago D. L. Demaree was a prosperous business
man, but met with reverse. His family consisted of a wife and six
children, three sons and three daughters. Shortly after reverses
overtook Demaree, his eldest son, Warde, graduate of Indiana University,
in a fit of temporary insanity cut his mother's throat with a razor, then
committed suicide with the same weapon. Mother and son were buried in
the same grave, the father never recovering from the terrible blow. From
that time fate has been most unkind to the aged father, he being
unfortunate at every business enterprise he engaged in. To add to his
burden of sorrow, his second son some six years ago grew wayward and was
given a sentence in the Southern Indiana Prison for theft. Though bowed
down with his great weight the father continued his uneven battle for a
livelihood, and while engaged in selling a patent met with the injuries
that will result in his death. He has wealthy relatives and was a
leading Presbyterian, filling the office of Trustee and Elder of that
church in Bloomington.
