Bloomington (IN) Republican Progress, May 9, 1899, p. 1.

Jack Hazel, a well known farmer residing in Indian Creek Twp. near Kirksville, was badly kicked by a horse Wednesday afternoon. He had been doing his trading and was just ready to leave town. He mounted his horse on the south side of the square and was starting off when a horse that was hitched to the rack whirled around and kicked him on the left leg. Mr. Hazel called for help and was lifted from his horse. He was taken to the Louder Sanitarium where he has been since. Upon examination it was found that Mr. Hazel's leg was broken in two places. He is about 80 years of age.
