THE MASSEY SHOOTING
Details of Saturday Night's Awful Tragedy
The Victim is Dangerously Hurt and Suffers Intensely

The unfortunate tragedy of Saturday midnight, as described in Sunday morning's WORLD, may end in murder--a murder it is claimed by the defendant that was committed in self defense.

Tim Monahan, in his testimony before Mayor Buskirk yesterday morning, said that Harry Massy, on Saturday night about 11 o'clock, forcibly entered his home and abused him and frightened his wife and two little children. Monahan claims that he did not shoot Massy until it became necessary to do so in self defense.

Dr. Harris fears that the wound in Massy's neck may prove fatal. He was bruised over the face in several places by the butt of Monahan's revolver. One shot almost amputated a finger on the left hand. The injured man spits blood clots continually and is growing weaker gradually.

A. G. Massy, father of Harry, says that he believes Mr. Monahan was not justified in doing the shooting and that he fired two shots after being told that young Massy was simply mistaken in the house and that he meant to do (?no) harm to anyone.

Tim Monahan, at his preliminary trial before His Honor, Mayor Buskirk, was placed under a $500 bond to await the result of Massy's injuries. He was arrested early Sunday mooring and placed in jail. Attorney William H. East has been retained as Massy's counsel, and the law firms of Miers & Corr and A. M. Hadley will represent the defendant.
