Bloomington (IN) Evening World, Dec 7, 1903, Clipping file (envelopes), Genealogy Library, Monroe County Historical Society, Bloomington, Indiana.
Warren Acuff, one of the brightest young men of Ellettsville, died at his home Saturday evening of typhoid fever. He was 22 years old.
The deceased was the son of the late Barton Acuff, deceased. He leaves the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Henry Corr, Mrs. Lou Chambers, Mrs. Belle May, Mrs. Lizzie Whisnand, J. T., Emma and Laura Acuff.
After completing the common school education he began teaching at the age of 16, teaching five successful schools in various parts of Monroe County. In the spring of 1901 he took a course in the Central Normal College at Danville. At the beginning of this school year he taught at the Wood Yard where he was loved by all his pupils.
He united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church 8 years ago and has been a true, faithful and active member ever since. At present he was the superintendent of the Sunday School in which he took great interest. Being a great lover of music, he helped organize the Ellettsville band. Some of his happiest hours were spent in practice with this band, and he always enjoyed being with its members.
His neighbors and those who know him best say he was a model young man and one worthy of imitation.
The funeral was held at 1:30 today in the Presbyterian Church in Ellettsville in charge of Rev. M. G. Allison of this city. The Ellettsville band preceded the funeral party to the church and cemetery. Pall bearers were as follows: Maurice Parks, Samuel Berry, Vick Faulkner, Carson Harris, John Whaley and John Matthews. The body was laid to rest in the Presbyterian Cemetery.
