Patricia,
Thanks for asking. That's a good question.
There really is no rhyme or reason to the newspapers I review for the
INMONROE list. Sometimes I'm searching for something in the newspaper on a
specific date and copy a month of newspapers while I'm at it. Sometimes I
just ask the librarian to make a choice. During the last year or so I
decided to stay within the season.. That means if its June, I try to copy
June papers because I don't like reading about freezing weather when I'm
sweltering in the heat. On the other hand, what I copy may not get shared
until the seasons change.
Because members of the INMONROE list have such varied interests in time
periods, I have NOT tried to start at point A and go to point B. I have not
tried to do all of 1898, for example. Additionally, about the turn of the
century several newspapers were published. Some newspapers may be missing
editions for days or months at a time.
Sometimes, if I'm short of money or time, I only copy what's very visible,
e.g., front page news, as opposed to digging in the back pages where
everything is thrown together in long columns with no headlines. Under
those circumstances, I may copy a month and skip several days even though a
newspaper may be available on those days.
To determine if copies of a given newspaper are available on microfilm at
the Monroe County Public Library, contact Pam Wasmer at 812-349-3080.
Hope that sheds a little light on the subject.
Randi
