Old Land Mark To Be Torn Down

Last of the Old Bloomington Business Section

The last and mark of the old time Bloomington about the business section will be razes in the next few days when the frame building on south College avenue, owned by Louden & Louden, is to be torn down. The contract for the removal of the building had been let and it is to be torn down next week.

The building was erected in 1844 by Samuel Chitman, at the time a prominent resident of Bloomington. In the late '50's and early '60's it was owned by Isaac Kahn, then a merchant of the city. Mr. Kahn came to Bloomington a poor man but by honest dealing and industry built up a successful business. A son, Henry Kahn, is now one of the owners of the Kahn Tailoring company, at Indianapolis.

For years the old building was used by the late William Emery for a residence and harness shop. It was for a long time the only harness shop in the city and was one of the prominent business places. It was purchased later by the late John H. Louden, father of Attorneys T.J. and W.M. Louden.
