Bloomington (IN) Telephone, Sep 26, 1916, p. 4.
Jacob A. Horner, aged 78, East 3rd Street, died unexpectedly last night
about 9 o'clock from heart failure that resulted from an illness of some
months. However, Mr. Horner seemed to be improving, was about the house
and was quite cheerful all day yesterday. He ate supper and talked as
usual, retiring about 8:30. Half an hour later his son, Oscar, who was in
the same room, heard a gasp and going to his father found that the end had
come. He was dead. On August 15th past, he was overcome by heart failure
and recovery seemed doubtful. Since then he has been confined to his bed,
but at times seemed to be sightly improved. Thursday he seemed better than
usual, sitting up for some time and walking about.
Jacob A. Horner was born in Harrison County, Indiana, April 24, 1838, and
was married in 1862 to Sophie A. Hunter. Last Saturday marked the
anniversary of their 54th year of married life. Mr. Horner has been since
early boyhood a member of the Methodist Church and was also a member of
many years standing of the Masonic Order and also the Eastern Star. His
widow, Sophie A. Horner, and two children, Oscar L. Horner and Miss Mary
Horner, together with three sisters, Mrs. Annette Hottel, the mother of
Attorney Hottle (sic), of this city, Mrs. Almira McClellan of Borden, and
Mrs. Lide Armstrong of Fredricksburg, Indiana, survive him. He was a man
of the highest Christian character and much loved and respected by a large
circle of acquaintances. Funeral services at 2 o'clock Sunday from the
residence. Dr. Taylor officiating. Burial at Rose Hill. Friends invited
to view remains at residence.
