Subject: [INMONROE] Luther Haney hurt in wood cutting accident
Date: Wed, 08 Jan 2003 03:16:04 -0500
Bloomington Weekly Telephone, August 16, 1892, p. 1
Luther Haney, near Smithville, met with a very serious accident Saturday afternoon. He and Fuge Clark were cutting wood for Maj. Grimes, and Haney was standing by the side of Clark, who was swinging an ax, when the blade flew off, when the blade flew off, striking Haney above the right knee. A gash was cut four inches long and to the bone, and he came very near bleeding to death before the flow of blood could be checked. Mr. Haney is the more to be pitied because he had only a few days before been able to leave his house, after a six months’ attack of inflammatory rheumatism.
