MONROE COUNTY, INDIANA DEATH RECORD - 1921-1940
In order to ensure the Index is as accurate as possible, entries were
cross-referenced with the County Cemeteries of Monroe - 1830-1998, Rose Hill
Cemetery - 1821-1976, and Lew Hill Monument Inscriptions books, which are
publications of the Monroe County Historical Society.
No source for the Index was noted, but may have been either the WPA or
the Monroe County Board of Health. In the event of poor legibility, or
information that is otherwise confusing, e.g. missing, strikeovers, a book
and page number are noted to assist in obtaining copies of death records.
Otherwise, that information has been omitted in the interest of time and
space. Additionally, keep in mind that record keeping was lax during these
early years, and some records may be missing or incomplete. Not all
cemeteries listed are located in Monroe County, and no further cemetery
information was given.
To order death records, send a request with the name of the deceased
and date and of place of death to: Monroe County Health Department, 119 W.
Seventh Street, Bloomington, Indiana 47404-3989. Certified copies are $6.00;
genealogical copies, which contain more information, cost $4.00. Remember to
include a copy of your photo I.D., indicate the purpose for which you need
the record (genealogy), your relationship (if any) to the person, and your
mailing address and phone number.
