MARY ELIZABETH HALL
June 13, 1846 - March 30, 1921
In her usual health, going from her home in 'Washington, Indiana, to
Russell, Iowa to visit a lifelong friend, died in the station of Burlington
at 5:20 a. m.
"She did not suffer, was sitting in the station and just fell over and
never made a sound." was the brief message received.
She was the daughter of Rev. Ephraim and Sarah Edmondson Hall of
Ellettsville, coming to Washington in 1859 where practically her entire
life was spent. Affiliated in childhood with the Cumberland Presbyterian
Church; she became a teacher in Sabbath school when quite young and acted
in that capacity throughout her life.
Especially interested in missionary work she faithfully discharged her
duties as treasurer for many years. Hers was a beautiful Christian
character, devoted to her church, friends and duty. For nearly 30 years a
bookkeeper in the Washington National Bank, she was well known in the
community.
Among her treasures was found a copy of "Suddenly," received from its
author, Marianne Farningham, in 1905, in reply to her inquiry concerning
the poem...
