Bloomington (IN) Telephone, Feb 7, 1899, p. 1. NOTE: This is a letter
from R. M. Weir/Wier (name appeared both ways in the article) written to
the editor of the Bloomingtono newspaper from Norman, Oklahoma. There were
several tears in this items making it difficult to read. Lengthy portions
not of genealogical significance were omitted as noted by the ellipsis.

...An uneventful ride found us at our first stopping place, Norman. This
is the site of the Territorial University, a town of 3,000...The attendance
is near 200. They have football, baseball teams and an excellent glee club
of which Lem. Martin, once a Bloomington boy, is a member.

...After five days at Norman, we are pleasantly located with the family of
Rev. P. J. Martin on a farm near Noble. Rev. Martin was once pastor of the
Christian Church at Bloomington.

...I should like to try my hand here. I have improved somewhat, but the
weather has been unfavorable for much outdoor life. We are still hoping
that gentler breezes may soon take the place of the sturdy north
wind. Much more might be written of this country, but lest I tire your
patience, I will close.

R. M. Wier/Weir
