DIES IN HIS CHAIR
Thomas Blackwell, Well Known Resident of The Smithville Community, Succumbs
After Five Weeks Illness, Age 73

Thomas Blackwell, a well known resident near Smithville, in ill health for
some five weeks, died suddenly yesterday at 2 o'clock while seated in his
chair, aged 73. The cause was heart and dropsey trouble.

Mr. Blackwell was born in Polk Township and was married to Rachel
Chambers. He was an upright and honest man and converted years ago, taking
an active part in Sunday school and church work though he was not a member
of any denomination.

Mr. Blackwell raised a large family, two of whom were deceased in
infancy. There are to mourn his death, the widow, a brother, James
Blackwell of Indianapolis; two sisters of Smithville, Mrs. Mary Clark and
Mrs. Almiranda Clark; three half brothers, Green, John and George, two half
sisters, Mrs. General Miers and Mrs. Jesse Deckard. The children are Mrs.
Lawrence Turner of Guthrie; Mrs. Leafy Johns, Bloomington; Mrs. Charles
Buchanan, Mrs. Posey Earl and Frank Blackwell of this city; and Mrs. Robert
Wooden, Clarence Blackwell and Mrs. Alonzo Hays. Besides there are many
grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 o'clock at the house in charge of Rev.
Sanford Phillips and burial in the Prince Cemetery near the home. The pall
bearers will be Lawrence Turner, Frank Blackwell, Charles Buchanan, Posey
Earl, Alonzo Hays and Robert Wooden.
