Monroe Circuit Court, September Term, 1842

The grand jurors for the State of Indiana impanelled and sworn to inquire
in and for the body of the County of Monroe upon their oath present that
one Mary Bridgewater, late of said county, spinster, on the first day of
September in the year of our Lord 1841 and on divers(e) other days and
times as well before as afterwards and from that time up to the finding of
this indictment at the county and state aforesaid a certain public house of
ill fame, unlawfully and wickedly did then and there (illegible) contniue
and maintain the said house for the sake of (illegible) and gain and the
gratification of the carnal and lewd passions and inclinations of her, the
said Mary Bridgewater, divers(e), evil, disposed, lewd and lascivious
persons, as well men as woman, and common prostitutes, on the days and
times aforesaid as well in the night as in the day, there unlawfully and
wickedly did receive and entertain; and in which said house the said Mary
Bridgewater did then and there, on the days and times aforesaid, with the
other diver(se) evil, disposed persons then and there being, by consent of
her the said Mary Bridgewater, unlawfully commit divers(e) (illegible word)
adulteries and fornications to the number of 20 and more in one day and
night and in which said house the said other evil disposed persons and
common prostitutes by the consent and procurement of her, the said Mary
Bridgewater, on the days and times aforesaid, then did unlawfully commit
other (illegible word), fornications and adulteries in a greatly scandalous
and publicly indecent manner to the great injury and annoyance of divers(e)
good and worthy citizens of said State of Indiana adjacent to the house of
the said Mary then and there residing contrary to the form of the statue in
such case made and provided against the peace and dignity of the State of
Indiana.
