Hi all,
Last Friday while at the Indiana State Library I asked about the records for the State "Old Age" Pensions. The Librarian didn't know that a State Pension ever existed, but after he did some looking through some books he found this:

Before Social Security there was an "old age" pension given by the state. It was paid when the person reached the age of 70 years old or if a person was disabled and had no means of supporting themselves. The amount was $16.00 a month and the pension was administered by the county where the person lived. These pensions were given by the state until 1935, then it became a Federal pension (Social Security).

Now we just have to figure out which county office handled the pensions & do the records still exist!
