DR. LOWDER DEAD

After an illness of three years, Dr. L. T. Lowder, for 22 years a
practicing physician in this county, died Saturday night at 11:15 o'clock
at his home just north of town where he moved two weeks ago. Dr. Lowder
was 65 (age was difficult to read) old, a veteran soldier, and was born
near Springville. He practiced medicine for 15 years at Harrodsburg and
then came to Bloomington. About three yeras ago he had a fall which
developed into paralysis and finally caused his death.

During the civil war he was a muscian in Co. E, 136th Indiana, but at the
close of the war he began studing medicine. He was graduated from Indiana
University, Central Medical College, took post graduate work in New York
and Chicago, and then studied in Berlin, Germany. He was a member of the
Knights of Pythias, this city, and the Masons at Harrodsburg. For many
years he resided at the corner of 4th and College Avenue. The doctor was a
leading Republican and a memnber of the pension boad at the time of his
death. Dr. Lowden was a man of unusual ability, courteous and loyal to his
friends, and a man of commanding influence in his profession and the community.

There are nine children left to mourn his death: Mrs. John W. Laird, wife
of the president of Danville College; Mrs. Dr. Leon Whetsell; Mrs. W. A.
Alexander, whose husband is registrar of Swathmore College in Pennsylvania;
Clarence Lowder, the electrician; Miss Lowder and Frank Lowder, this city;
George, Newton and Howard Lowder of San Jose, California. The brothers and
sisters who survive are: Mrs. Netha Bell and James Lowder, this city; Mrs.
William McDowell of Kansas; Mrs. Jackson Massy of Harrodsburg.

Short services were held at the residence today at 3 o'clock in charge of
Rev. Todd and if Newton Lowder arrives from California in time, the body
will be taken in the morning to the Lowder graveyard near Springville for
interment.
