A SMITHVILLE WEDDING PARTY

The Todd/Bender wedding, which took place at the residence of James Dowden
on Sunday, February 3, 1884, was quite an interesting affair there being no
invitations given except to Esq. Duncan. The hour was set for 12 o'clock,
it being a beautiful day the family was pleased to welcome the following
persons happening in: Hazel Thrasher and wife, Steve Rush and wife, Sam
Jones and wife, Homer Thrasher, Ira Gilbert, John Humphry and Mrs. Dan
Wooden, A. K. Dowden and family. Temp Johnson and family, Johnithan (sic)
Trisler, Lem Duncan and others. At 12 o'clcok Esq. Duncan recited the
short ceremony which united the young couple. The company at once seated
themselves around the table and partook of the good things which was
prepared on short notice by Mrs. A. K. Dowden and Mrs. Temple
Johnson. After dinner, it being a Democratic crowd, we held a Democratic
Convention with Mr. Humphry in the chair. The convention decided to use
its strongest efforts in behalf of the Hon. Robert W. Miers or the Hon.
John W. Buskirk for judge at the next Democratic judicial convention. The
young couple will remain at James Dowden's and keep house for them, will
send Courier Devil cake next time.
