I, William Matlock, of Monroe County and State of Indiana, being of sound
mind and disposing memory do hereby make and constitute this my last will
and testament in manner and form following, viz.:

First--My will is that after all my just debts are paid there shall be an
equal division of my property, with the exceptions hereinafter made,
between my wife, Sally Matlock, and my children, George Matlock, John
Matlock, Charlotte Matlock, David Matlock, Malinda Matlock, James Matlock
and Polly Matlock. In the division of my landed estate, my will is that
my wife, Sally, and my youngest son, James, shall have and own the quarter
section of land on which I now live being the north quarter of Section
Numbered Fifteen in Township No. 9 North, and Range Two West, to be kept
and occupied as a home for my wife and them of my children who may reside
with my wife during their minority or who remain and aid in supporting the
family, and at the death of my wife, or in case that my wife should again
marry, my will is that the said land shall be divided equally either by a
line running north and south or east and west, as my son James or his
guardian may elect, and of the two half quarters, he is to take his
choice. And the remaining half is to fall in equal proportion to the said
James and the balance of my children above mentioned.

Secondly--My will is that each of my other children shall have a half
quarter section of land a piece in Morgan County for which I now hold
patents. The said half quarters being valued and the children who may get
the most valuable is to pay to the others so much as (to) make all the
lands of equal value. And furthermore, my will is that my wife shall have
of my personal estate for her support and that of the family what shall be
deemed proper for their support to be selected by my executrix and
executor, and the blance of my personal property I will in equal proportion
to all of my children. My will is that my land on Salt Creek in this
county shall be sold to pay out the land on which I now live.

And finally, I do hereby constitute my wife, Sally, and my son, George, the
executor and executrix of this my last will and testament. In witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3rd day of November 1826.
