DOCUMENT: Monroe County Tax Duplicates--1861

SOURCE: Available from the LDS Family History Library, Film Unit #5473,
Project #IND 1-053, Roll #1. Microfilm order number: 1295564.

INTRODUCTION: Each record is presented linearly across two pages. The
fields include: a land description consisting of section, township, range,
and acreage; value of the land; value of improvements; value of land and
improvements; value of corporation stock, value of personal property; total
value of taxables; polls; state tax, county tax; school tax; road tax,
township tax, sinking fund tax, special school tax, military tax, total
amout of taxes; number of delinquents, delinquent tax, penalty and
interest; total including delinquency; and remarks. Each parcel of property
within a township appears on a separate line beneath the owner's name. Each
township is presented separately and each owner within a township is given
a consecutive number that follows from one township to the next.

I am compiling an alpha index only that includes name, page and number
assigned to a given owner. Although the microfilm is available for rental
only, if it is renewed twice it stays permanently on location. The total
projected cost of a film kept on location is $9.75. To the extent possible,
I will try to keep the films available permanently. To provide support for
this project, I will copy records from the microfilm for $1.00 per page (to
include both sides) which is twice my cost, plus a SASE. Please note that
there are multiple records on a single page and you should order by the
page and not by the record. My address is: Rt 4, Box 121, Spencer IN 47460.

The information as noted below appears in the order that it was found and
has not yet been entered into a database. Therefore, it is not in alpha
order. As all the information is hand transcribed, and the LDS library in
Bloomington has only limited hours, it will be forthcoming rather slowly.
