Hi, folks,

Well, it seems that my modem wasn't the only thing to die as a result of
the lightning. I was able to use my computer briefly on Wednesday,
although it wasn't functioning right, and by Thursday morning all I had was
a blank screen. The experts said the lightning traveled through my modem
to effect the computer's motherboard causing it to die but not to expire
immediately.

So now I'm a lot smarter. I know how to protect my modem, and thereby the
rest of my computer, with the surge protector. I had the surge protector
and everything was hooked up to it BUT the modem, because I didn't know
what went in the "in" button and what went out the "out" button. I also
know that most computers that are effected by lightning are susceptible
because of the voltage that goes through the modem.

I hope that someone learns from my expensive mistake. Protect yourself
now before it is too late.

Now I have a new computer. The computer genius, from Bloomington's PC
Guru, who diagnosed my problem and built my new computer saved most of my
data and put it on the new computer but not in a place where I can access
it as efficiently. And hopefully things will be back to normal for a
couple of weeks.
