BARELY ESCAPE WITH LIVES
The residence of Marshall Stewart, south of Harrodsburg, was burned to the
gound yesterday causing a loss of $1,500. A defective flue is supposed to
have been the cause. When discovered, the fire had made such headway that
members of the family were compelled to leave the building in their night
clothes, Mrs. Stewart and six children running through the snow 300 yards
to their nearest neighbor. The temperature was down to 10 below zero, and
their feet were badly frozen. Mr. Stewart, in trying to save some personal
effects, was burned.
